In our new episode of Table School, we take a closer look at clatter, rattling, and impact noise at the table.
The sound environment in a room isn’t just about speech, reverberation, and the acoustics of the room itself. Sound is also created directly when furniture is used – when plates are set down, cutlery is dropped, or trays are dragged across the tabletop.
We go through how the tabletop’s construction and choice of surface material can affect the sound, and show the difference between our standard tabletop and our sound-dampening LOW construction.
LOW has been tested at RISE side by side with our standard construction. In the episode, we show the results and also explain why the decibel scale isn’t always that straightforward to interpret, and what the difference can actually mean for the perceived sound level.
You’ll also see how different surface materials affect the results and what you can consider when choosing tables for, for example, dining halls, restaurants, and other environments where many people are present at the same time.
