Care instructions for tabletops & surface materials

We manufacture furniture with the ambition that it will have a long life. With the right care and attention, the materials age beautifully and can be used for many years—even in high-wear environments. Here you will find advice for our different tabletops and surface materials.

If a surface has become worn or damaged, or if you want to update the furniture over time, many of our tables can also be refurbished at our factory in Tibro through our refurbishment service.

Care gives your furniture a long life

Thick veneer and wood surfaces

Wood is a living material that is affected by seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. Our tables are made with sandable thick veneer and solid-wood details so they can be maintained, repaired, and last a long time—even in high-wear environments.

During the first weeks, both the wood and the surface treatment continue to mature and cure. Therefore, be a little extra careful at first.

Daily care

Wipe the surface with a lightly damp cloth and always dry with a dry cloth afterward. If needed, use a mild solution of hand dish soap or soft soap: 1 part cleaner and 9 parts water.

Things to keep in mind

Avoid letting liquids remain on the surface for extended periods.

To avoid uneven color changes, the tabletop should be evenly exposed to light and not covered by objects for long periods.

Always use trivets or coasters for hot items such as coffee cups, tea lights, and pots.

Avoid:

  • scouring cleaners
  • strong solvents
  • alkaline cleaners
  • abrasive sponges

Hardwax-oiled surface

A hardwax-oiled surface gives the wood a natural feel and a protective finish that can be maintained over time. For tougher stains: dab gently with a soap solution—do not rub, as it can create glossy patches. To maintain protection, we recommend applying a new coat of hardwax when needed, or about once a year.

We recommend: OSMO Hardwax Oil 3062.

Lacquered surface

The lacquer seals the wood surface and creates a durable protective layer. Always wipe up spills immediately to avoid stains or water marks.

After 10 years

Because we use thick veneer, the tabletop can be sanded and given a new surface treatment.

All our tables are also built with a birch plywood core, making it possible to rebuild the table over time. For example, a rectangular tabletop can be reshaped into a round one or reduced in size for continued use in new environments.

If you need help, we offer refurbishment at our factory in Tibro.

Linoleum

Furniture Linoleum, also called Desktop Linoleum, is a natural surface material with a warm, tactile feel. The material is sound-dampening, antistatic, and comfortable to work at.

Linoleum is a living material that continues to cure after production. Therefore, the surface is extra sensitive at first.

We do not lacquer our linoleum surfaces because lacquer impairs several of the material's natural properties.

Daily care

Wipe the surface with a lightly damp microfiber cloth or soft cloth.

If needed, use:

  • pH-neutral cleaner
  • gall soap
  • soft soap
  • Always dry with a dry cloth afterward.

Things to keep in mind

Linoleum is sensitive to prolonged moisture. Therefore, always wipe up spills immediately to avoid stains or water marks.

Avoid:

  • strong alkaline cleaners
  • abrasive cleaning products
  • excessive moisture
  • Do not drag hard objects across the surface.

Maintenance over time

To maintain protection and sheen, we recommend maintenance with transparent hardwax when needed, or about once a year.

We recommend: OSMO Hardwax Oil.

After 10 years

Desktop Linoleum can be refurbished and in some cases sanded in a similar way to wood surfaces. Since our tables are built with a birch plywood core, the tabletop can also be reshaped to a new size or form for continued use.

If you need help, we offer refurbishment at our factory in Tibro.

High-pressure laminate

HPL is a durable and easy-care surface material developed for high-wear environments and frequent cleaning.

The material is impact-resistant, water-resistant, and resistant to many chemicals, making it suitable for schools, restaurants, and other public environments.

Daily care

Wipe the surface with lukewarm water and a soft cloth.

If needed, use:

  • mild hand dish soap
  • pH-neutral cleaner

For ingrained stains, a dish brush can be used carefully.

Things to keep in mind

Wipe up colored liquids as quickly as possible.

Avoid:

  • abrasive cleaners
  • steel wool
  • hard scrubbing tools

Maintenance over time

High-pressure laminate normally requires no periodic maintenance.

After 10 years

If the laminate's hard surface is damaged, the material cannot be repaired in the same way as wood or linoleum.

If the damage is near the edge, the tabletop can in some cases be re-routed or reduced in size through refurbishment.

We are happy to help via our refurbishment service.

Nanolaminate

Fenix is a super-matte nanolaminate with a silky-smooth feel and very low light reflection.

The non-porous surface makes the material resistant to fingerprints, dirt, and bacteria, making it especially suitable for environments with high hygiene requirements.

Daily care

Wipe the surface with lukewarm water and a soft cloth.

If needed, use:

  • mild hand dish soap
  • pH-neutral cleaner

Things to keep in mind

Avoid:

  • abrasive cleaners
  • hard scrubbing tools
  • steel wool

Wipe up colored liquids immediately.

Maintenance over time

Fenix normally requires no periodic maintenance.

After 10 years

If the hard surface is damaged, the material cannot be repaired in the same way as wood or linoleum.

For damage near the edge, the tabletop can sometimes be re-routed or reduced in size through refurbishment. We are happy to help via our refurbishment service.

Kayar

Kayar is a durable surface material made of rubber and coconut fiber, developed for public environments.

The material has sound-dampening properties and a lively appearance where the coconut fibers give each table a unique character.

Daily care

Wipe the surface with a lightly damp cloth.

If needed, use a neutral or mildly alkaline cleaner: pH 7–8.

Always dry the surface afterward.

Things to keep in mind

Remove spills and stains immediately to prevent them from migrating down into the material.

Use only cleaning agents approved for rubber surfaces.

Maintenance over time

Kayar normally requires limited maintenance but benefits from regular cleaning.

After 10 years

Kayar cannot be sanded like wood or linoleum.

However, since the tabletop is built with a birch plywood core, the table can be reshaped or adapted for continued use.

We are happy to help via our refurbishment service.

Common questions about table care

Here we have gathered common questions about our tables, surface materials, and how the furniture can be maintained over time. Proper care not only extends the life of the furniture—it also helps the materials age in a beautiful and dignified way. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, you’re always welcome to contact us.

Can I sand the tabletop?

Yes. Our tables with thick veneer can be sanded. Linoleum can also, in many cases, be sanded and given a new surface treatment. Contact us if you would like more detailed advice.

I got a scratch on my veneered table—can I remove it?

A scratch is usually not as deep as you think at first glance. You can always try rubbing a walnut into the scratch, then wipe with a damp cloth.

I find that the Fenix laminate doesn't get clean.

Our best tip is to lather gall soap in warm water, and use a fiber cloth to wipe the surface with the gall soap. Dry with a clean cloth. Remember to use an uncolored fiber cloth. If the stains are very difficult, you can also try rubbing with a stain-removing sponge together with the gall soap.
